Bunion Treatment Options

Bunions are a foot deformity that appears on the side of the foot at the base of the big toe. This is when the structure of your foot causes excess bone to grow and it looks like a bony knob on the side of your foot. This can sometimes be painful and can cause irritation as your shoes rub against your bunions. There are ways to deal with this irritation and feel more comfortable throughout the day. Dr. Luis Perez at Hollywood Podiatry Associates in Hollywood, FL, serving Pembroke Pines, FL, can explain how bunions can be treated.

Treating Your Bunions

When dealing with bunions, they can’t be reversed without surgery from our podiatrist, but there are ways to treat some of the symptoms that may come with bunions. If you’re dealing with soreness or blisters, you can try placing ice on your bunions and taking anti-inflammatory pain medications. You can also try taping up your foot to give your bunion support and cushioning.

You should also be sure to change to shoes that are wide in the toes and offer the proper support. To give yourself added support, you can also use orthotics to cushion the feet. Adding pads by the bunions can also prevent blisters from forming due to friction.

In severe cases, surgery might be needed to remove the bunion and correct the positioning of your feet. This removes the bunion and will help relieve some of the pain that you might experience because of them.
